Hilltop Hideaway

Located on a hilltop surrounded by oak savannah, this estate’s entire landscape was re-envisioned. The new owners sought to create a home for their family by remodeling the two existing houses and adding a pool area in addition to redesigning the gardens and entrance area.

A new pool, spa, and bocce court create distinct outdoor living and entertainment areas. Each amenity was carefully sited to maintain the integrity of the natural landscape and blend seamlessly with the existing site and vegetation.

A screening wall near the pool received a bold finish of purple stucco. Informal, sculptural plantings with splashes of yellow and purple gradually blend the landscape into the grassy hillside.

Existing asphalt was replaced with permeable paving materials.

This project received a 2013 NCC-ASLA Merit Award and was the winner of the 2013 California Home and Design Landscape Design Award.
