Shades of Green Landscape Architecture

Wine Country Getaway

Surrounded by vineyards, this property features a renovated farmhouse and a thoughtfully designed landscape for a wine country getaway. A new cedar fence with galvanized posts complements the existing gate and palms, leading to a gravel courtyard framed by low concrete walls and informal plantings.

The landscape combines modern design with agricultural roots, emphasizing environmental sensitivity through permeable surfaces and drought-tolerant plants. Gravel and wide concrete bands create a graphic pattern softened by grasses and perennials, while a sculptural pine tree provides shade and frames views.

To the east, an enclosed rose garden and pool area sit beside a converted garage-turned-pool house. The informal planted screen lines the perimeter of the pool. The planting palette chosen is primarily green and grey, with splashes of purple and yellow that complement the expansive sunset views on the property.

The light-filled she-shed is designed to blend into the environment. It is made of wood and glass and the wood will gracefully weather to a grey color over time. Nearby are farm-style troughs for vegetables and flowers.

Grasses and drought-tolerant plants replace traditional lawns for a water-wise design.

The surrounding deck was part of the architecture and is constructed from wood to echo the farmhouse aesthetic. Natural concrete was paired to harmonize with the white exterior and light wood.

To the west, a sleek trellis provides a shaded spot for a dining table to savor the sunsets, with a bocce court and fire pit nearby. This design enhances the property’s beauty while promoting a sustainable, inviting and functional landscape.
